*AGE: 16 months (born October 2021)
WEIGHT: 51 lbs.
*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical secure fence is recommended. He is a young guy and needs daily exercise and walking to expend his energy. No shock collars or invisible fences will be considered as we do not feel these would set him up for success.
*COAT TYPE: lower-shedding curly coat that will need regular brushing and grooming. His new family should be prepared for the expense ($100) of having him groomed every 8-10 weeks.
*ENERGY LEVEL: High energy! He is very athletic, smart and loves to be moving! He will need daily exercise in the form of walks/runs and playing. He is currently getting lots of play time with our dogs and LOTS of outside running around time in a fenced yard.
DOGS: Hanson has been great with the 10 year old male Doodle in his foster home. He would love another young dog to play with. He can be a little much and rough at times for our 12# dog, but they do play and I think with time he would be fine with small or big dogs.
*CATS: He has been exposed to cats but has not had free reign being around them. He was interested in them, but he may need gradual exposure as he seems to want to play but is much bigger than them.
*KIDS: 10+. Hanson is a dog that doesn’t walk but runs and bounces everywhere so probably age 10 and up would be best. He has the potential to playful nip a bit when playing. He loves to play and wants attention.
*CAR: Great. He did wonderfully on a long car ride and will settle down nicely.
*CRATE: Yes, he sleeps wonderfully in his crate all night long. He prefers not to be crated when someone is home but is crated just fine when we leave the house.
*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes, he has never had an accident, but doesn’t exactly tell me he needs to go outside.
*LEASH: Hanson does great on a leash and with a harness.
*GROOMING: Hanson is very active, so a groomer that understands and has patience would be good.
Hanson is a 16 month old, 51 lb. male black and white Goldendoodle who was surrendered to IDOG by his family when they felt he needed a home with a fenced yard and with a family who could provide him with more exercise and attention.
Hanson is very sweet and very very smart. He is food-motivated which makes training him a breeze. He will need continued training when he goes to his adoptive home. We feel like he missed out on some socialization and training as a young puppy so training will be beneficial to him and his new family. His temperament is gentle and kind.
Hanson’s ideal home will be with an active family that loves the outdoors and is willing to take him on runs, walks, and hikes or lots of play time. Hanson likes to put things in his mouth, so he has been caught before with several stuffed animals that belong to the kids and maybe a sock or shoe as well.
He is still a young dog, so just needs some more training on the things he’s allowed to have. He likes to chew on the hard plastic bones or antlers. He does love a good treat and will be easily trained using food motivation. He is house and crate trained and wants to be with you or another dog playing most of the time. Hanson is a great listener and wants to please. He also responds very well to his name and redirection.
Hanson needs playtime. He’s happiest when he can play fetch or run around with another dog. He enjoys walks, but the playing is what he LOVES.
Hanson would love to have another dog in his home. He loves to play with our dogs and having an established dog to help him understand the house rules would be a benefit.
Hanson can be crated overnight for 7 hours. During the day, he can be crated for short periods as long as he gets the exercise he needs. He is always crated when we leave the house and does just fine 4-5 hours, if necessary.
When Hanson first came in to the foster home, he would whine and wouldn’t settle easily. After 2 weeks in his foster home, he now settles down and we began seeing a new dog. He will need some transition time and patience when he moves to his forever home.
He does not like to be separated from his people if they are home. He likes to always be with you. It’s not often that he just lays around or sits as he’s very active, so medication or other means to help calm him might be something to be open to, at least for the short term. He does get a low dose of Trazodone on occasion when he has been crated for a bit longer and this seems to calm him down.
He stays in the mudroom with a baby gate up when his fosters can’t watch him. He initially whined quite a bit when he first arrived in his foster home but has settled down and now only whines when someone is home and he wants out of his crate.
Hanson can initially be a bit timid around men – he takes a bit of time to smell, may back up, and then will come forward on his time. He usually warms up within a few hours to any new males he meets.

-owner(s) willing to take him to training
-with another young playful dog who wants a buddy
Hanson is up to date on core vaccines, neutered, microchipped, crate and house-trained. He is heartworm negative and current on heartworm/flea/tick preventives.
